The IFAN website was launched on the 26 of January 2008, on the Republic Day of India, in the framework of the visit of the President of the French Republic Nicolas Sarkozy, by Madam Valérie Pécresse, Minister of Higher Education and Research, and Mr Narayana Murthy, Chairman Board and Chief Mentor Infosys. This event occurred at India Habitat Center, to mark the IFAN Foundation Congress, Centenary of ESSEC as well as the commemoration of 25 yrs of the ESSEC –IIMA partnership. The event opened with an address by Mr. Pierre Tapie, Dean and President of the ESSEC. The launch was followed by the signature of the IFCU (Indo French Consortium of Universities) agreement, and the signature of 21 university cooperation agreements between several reputed Indian and French institutes of higher education.

IFAN is a network that facilitates linkages between alumni, students and the diverse body of people, whether businessmen, artists, engineers, scientists, civil servants, administrators, journalists….

IFAN was launched in February 2007 during the mega education fair where over 140 French universities and institutes of higher education were represented in India. It has created a space for the Francophone and Francophile Indian community to be in constant and lively contact with French connections and promotes contacts and information exchange at a bi-national and international level.

This network will encourage other students to go to France to study and benefit from a French and European exposure in their personal and professional lives in order to become citizens of the world and share cultural diversity in a globalised context.

IFAN which has enlarged its borders to welcome the IFTA , ESSEC, INSEAD, and also the Sciences PO Alumni. We work on the principle of reciprocity and thus would like to include Indian students in France and also French students in India in this network.
